Badia di Camaiore

The church was built by Benedictine monks in the 8th century and it increased so much in importance and attendance due to its location along the Via Francigena, at that time travelled by crowds of pilgrims heading to Rome, that it was necessary to expand it in the 12th century with the addition, among other things, of two side naves, giving the church its current appearance. Inside, the fresco from the Giotto school depicting the Madonna della Pietà is particularly notable.
